OLD BOYS CLUB

OLD BOYS

"I started playing rugby with the Black and Blue in 1980 as one of the original members and founders. I fell in love with the sport in college after giving up football and being introduced to it by another former football player. Rugby satisfied the competitiveness that I developed growing up playing anything possible. It also satisfied the desire to be part of a team and achieve success as a group. Many friendships which still exist today were developed through play, practice and travel time together. In many ways the club became like a second family to me. We had many successful seasons and some rather forgettable ones as well, but both definitely add to the memories. I still love to follow the club and and help out in whatever way possible today."

Cheers to 40 years...

The Milwaukee Black & Blue RFC is a long withstanding Division 3, Men's Rugby Club from Milwaukee, WI. The club was founded in the fall of 1980 by several graduates of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and University of Wisconsin-Madison. The first match was played in Oconomowoc, WI against the Green Bay Celtics, and was followed by a debaucherous post-match party. From there, a tradition was born. Throughout the past 40 years, the Black & Blue won several state championships, qualified for the Midwest Championships, and won tournaments in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Georgia. We have had home pitches on the north, south and east sides of Milwaukee, with our current pitch being at Minooka Park, Waukesha.

"Besides the enjoyment of the game itself and the socials, I feel that the BBRFC was like an extended family. The rugby community is an open and welcoming group in general, but there was something very different with the BBRFC than other groups and sports teams, in my experience. You had all of these individuals from different backgrounds and vocations come together, united through a common goal and desire to excel together on and off the pitch. BBRFC rugby was a major part of my life and I enjoyed all of the experiences, good and bad, throughout the years."
